Pine Point Beach sits at the top of a 7 mile long crescent shaped beach. The best time to surf is when there is swell coming from the East/SE and when the wind is blowing offshore. Typically we look for a NNE wind to keep that wave height building as it approaches the sandy beach.
Below you can see how the East Coast differs from the West Coast in that there is a larger/longer shelf which will affect the waves as they roll in from the Atlantic Ocean.

Specifically for Maine, we get some of the nor’easter swells early and typically hurricane swells later. The surf culture here is what you dream of. Surfers of all levels and ages. Maybe not the most tropical situation, however, it’s true what they say about East Coast surfers, we are committed. Not only do we have to wait for swell but we also have to get out there in the perfect window to fashion our craft before it leaves; typically the next day.
I have found that the North East has some of the best East Coast surf spots. Something about those heavy, dark winters and lack of glamour. A lot of people can surf perfect 3-4 footers in the tropics all day, everyday and become pretty decent. It’s the diehards that keep the sport alive around the world.
Stoked for you.
