PINE POINT BEACH SURF REPORT: THURSDAY 4/23
It is a stagnant morning at the Point. While the sun is trying to poke through, the ocean is offering practically nothing to ride. We’re looking at ankle high ripples at best. The light offshore morning wind is grooming a flat surface, meaning it looks pretty but has zero power to push even a high volume log. It’s a day better spent working at the shop or taking a walk on the sand, as the surf is non-existent.

Surfing Pine Point
Pine Point Beach sits at the top of a 7 mile long crescent shaped sandy beach. It is generally more sheltered than Higgins Beach, its neighbor to the North, making it a favorite for longboarders and cleaner conditions on massive days.
To get the best possible session at Pine Point, you want to aim for these specific conditions:
- Ideal Swell Direction
- Best: Southeast (SE)
- Good: East-Southeast (ESE)
- Pine Point needs a bit of angle to get into the bay. A South swell often bypasses it, while a pure East or Northeast swell can sometimes get blocked by Cape Elizabeth.
- Ideal Wind Direction
- Offshore (BEST): Northwest (NW) or West (W)
- Sideshore: Southwest (SW) can be okay if light, but it often creates a nump on the face.
- Onshore (AVOID): Anything from the East or South will typically turn the water into choppy, blown out soup.
- The Best Tide
- Optimal Window: Low to Mid-Tide (Incoming)
- Pine Point is famous for mushing out at high tide. As the water gets deep against the beach the waves lose their breaking power and become mushy or disappear entirely.
- The Sweet Spot: Start your session about 2 hours before low tide and say until about two hours after. The incoming tide often has the most push and can create longer rides.
Pro Tip: If Pine Point looks flat but you see lines moving in the distance, check the jetties near the northern and southern ends of the beach. Sometimes sand bars can funnel small waves into much more rideable waves than the middle of the beach.
